Securexam Document & Tutorials

What is Securexam?

Securexam is a test administration tool that CSCC has employed in our testing center to make our college’s online testing services more secure. Securexam provides us with two major security features:

  • Securexam prevents students from accessing web pages outside of the Blackboard exam.

  • Securexam automatically enters the password into Blackboard so the student never needs to see or be exposed to it.

ATTENTION: Who Should Be Using Securexam?

Starting Autumn 2007, all exams given in the testing center that use Blackboard will be requied to use Securexam!

If you do not use the Testing Center to administer Blackboard exams, then you do not need to concern yourself with Securexam.

Important Notes Before You Get Started:

Please take a moment and read the following, as it will help you be a more successful Securexam user!

  • The exam name must be the same throughout Blackboard.  So make sure you use the same exam name for all of  the following areas of your course:

    • The Exam Link (this is the link that students click to take the test)
    • Test Manager
    • Grade Book
    • Secure Exam password site

  • If you are using several exams in one class or several classes, you can only log into the Securexam site to get one password at a time.  You must log out after each password and log back in to the Securexam website get a fresh password.  Otherwise, you will keep getting the same password.

  • For your test name to work with Securexam, it can not be duplicated in the test manager -  this means if your Securexam test is named "final", you must remove or rename all other tests named "final" in the test manager area.

  • Off Campus sites do not have Securexam yet.  So please provide the Testing Center with the passwords as you always have if you know you have students taking tests at off campus sites.

  • Please be careful not to have any spaces at the front or rear of a test name. Leading/ending spaces in an exam name will cause Securexam not to function properly in the testing center.

Securexam Password Information:

Securexam uses the name of your exam to generate a password.  The generated password is entered into the Blackboard password field.  Because many instructors name their exams "Midterm" or "Final," the same password may be generated for completely different classes.  For example, if a BIO class and an ACCT class decide to call their first midterm "Midterm," Securexam will generate the same password for both BIO and ACCT classes

There is nothing wrong with sharing a password and because students do not have to type in the Securexam password to open their exam. The odds of a security compromise are low.

Steps for Using Securexam:

When you are ready to use Securexam to generate passwords for your exams, do the following:

  1. Go to http://global.cscc.edu/SecurExam/

  2. Enter the password: browserpwg (this allows you to access the password generating system)

  3. Enter the name of your exam or quiz in the Exam Title field.

  4. Click Generate

  5. Copy and paste the generated password into the Blackboard exam password field
