What are Webinars? A Webinar is a live seminar delivered over the web. The seminar information appears on a specific website when you log on with a password. You typically hear the audio through a speakerphone or as a live audio stream over the web. A Webinar is designed to be interactive between the presenter and audience. The audience can ask questions over the telephone or by typing in a question on the website, like in a chat room. Usually educational Webinars last 1-3 hours and cover a variety of topics such as higher education administration, teaching practices, student support services and uses of instructional technologies. What is Starlink? Starlink is an agency of the Texas Association of Community Colleges. The State of Texas Academic Resource Link (STARLINK) was established in 1989 with an initial three-year Perkins State Leadership grant awarded to the Dallas Community College District (DCCCD) and the Austin Community College (ACC). Columbus State Community College is a subscription paying member and as such has access to the training materials produced by Starlink. These teleconferences are broadcast via satellite and streamed over the web. Starlink makes available a number of teleconferences on their website for on-demand viewing. Material access is restricted by password and can be viewed by Faculty and Staff of CSCC for free. Contact TLRC at (614)287-5991 for an access password. Who are able to attend Webinars? Anyone may attend a Webinar. The ITI department may identify a specific group of staff, faculty or administrators who would be interested in specific Webinar topics for promotion. For example, financial aid administrators and staff would be alerted if we had a Webinar on Online FAFSA Forms. What is the cost to attend a Webinar? You do not have to pay to attend a Webinar. A college department will cover the necessary registration costs. |
