Respondus Monitor Module

All courses that use Respondus Monitor (RM) will have our RM module, consisting of an announcement and two menu items, loaded into the course after the content has been loaded. This module includes all pertinent RM testing information.

The announcement explains important testing information. It includes the following:

• What is needed to test virtually
• The practice test attempt deadline dates and feedback dates
• The Online Student Success Guides training sessions

The menu item "Testing with Respondus Monitor" contains:

• Faculty Information on virtual proctoring and setting up the test in Blackboard
• Student Instructions
• Respondus Monitor Training module
• The Practice Test
• The Approval Certificate

The menu item "Proctor Results" is empty and is used by our professional proctors to communicate the feedback on the students' testing sessions for the course's tests. This menu item is HIDDEN from students and should never be made available to them as it contains private information on all students testing sessions.

Students are required to complete the training module and take the practice test within the first two weeks of the course so they are familiar with the process and they can ensure their technology works. The training module and practice test will add two columns to the grade center (RESPONDUS MONITOR TRAINING and PRACTICE TEST) using a special category (DEIS_RM_Use_Only). Once the student completes the training module, a score of "1" is placed in the grade center column. RESPONDUS MONITOR TRAINING. Since this column is displayed as complete/incomplete, a checkmark will be shown for all students completing this training. This completion will allow the student access to the practice test using adaptive release rules. Please do not edit this column information.

Students will have three opportunities to earn a perfect score (or 100%) on the practice test to show that they understand the process and are committed to academic integrity while testing with RM. There is a rubric attached to the short answer question on the practice test. Our professional proctors will review the testing session and grade the practice test using this rubric. Students can review the rubric and associated feedback to correct any issues and attempt the practice test again.

Students who successfully perform the testing process including the environment check will earn "10" points which is a perfect score. An approval certificate will be available for these students to download and show other instructors. If a student provides a certificate from another course, the instructor can manually override the student's grade with a "1" in RESPONDUS MONITOR TRAINING and "10" in PRACTICE TEST grade center columns. Please attach the certificate to the PRACTICE TEST grade when manually overriding the grade.

The Online Student Success Guides (OSSGs) hold training sessions at the beginning of the semester, the beginning of the late start courses, and the beginning of the second 8-week courses. These sessions are found in the announcement as well as a link in the training module. These OSSGs also coach students in the proper process for issues discovered during actual tests not related to academic integrity.
